One of the most rewarding aspects of working in the window film industry is the number of lives we positively impact as the films work quietly in the background. Some varieties of our window films and architectural finishes possess an eye-catching “wow” factor. Other window films fly under the radar, allowing our clients to live and work more comfortably and safely.

However, when thinking of the clients who have impacted us the most, one organization emerges to the forefront: The Children’s Hospital of Richmond.

Since our relationship with the client began back in 2017, Solar Film has provided window film solutions for the Children’s Hospital of Richmond to fulfill a wide variety of needs. From the hospital staff’s comfort to the patients’ safety and privacy, we have carefully listened to the client’s requirements and provided resolutions to the challenges posed by clear, unfortified glass.

Challenges We Solved with 3M Window FilmGlare & Heat

The sun’s heat and glare detracted from the comfort of the hospital staff, in addition to the comfort of patients and their families. We helped the client select a few different films to mitigate the glare and heat gain throughout the building. The window film product selected for each glass surface depended upon the specific needs and use of the space. For some applications, we installed 3M Night Vision Window Film, and we also utilized a frosted film to help diffuse sunlight.

Privacy

In addition to diffusing sunlight to reduce glare, the frosted film we installed provides enhanced privacy. The client selected 3M FASARA San Marino to reduce the visibility of computer screens where confidential information may be displayed. This increased privacy helps the Children’s Hospital of Richmond adhere to HIPAA guidelines.

Safety

In areas for patients requiring intensive psychological care, we installed a safety film. The film selected, 3M Safety & Security S40, helps hold shattered glass in place if broken by a thrown object or other force of impact. Installing this film helps protect patients from the glass fragments’ sharp, jagged edges to minimize the risk of injury.

Why We Love Working with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond

Alex Jansen is Solar Film’s window film consultant who works closely with the Children’s Hospital of Richmond (CHR) on improvements to their building. He thoroughly enjoys collaborating with Susan Kinter-Jenkins and John Sanford from CHR to solve the challenges associated with their windows and other glass surfaces. Alex says that Susan and John are excellent at articulating their concerns and are receptive to Solar Film’s creative solutions.
